Shockwave Therapy ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive, relatively pain free, outpatient alternative to surgery for those suffering from many joint and tendon disorders. Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) sends high-acoustic shockwaves into the bone or soft tissue, in effect re-injuring the area on a cellular level and breaking up the scarring that has penetrated tendons and ligaments. The controlled re-injuring of tissue allows the body to regenerate blood vessels and bone cells.

What Makes Shockwave Effective? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Shockwave is thought to work for three reasons:

1. The shockwaves stimulate a metabolic reaction in the affected tissue, causing stress fibres to develop and/or change.

2. The shockwaves generate cavitation bubbles that breakdown calcific deposits.

3. The shockwaves induce an analgesic reaction mechanism.
